Peter provides business formation, development advice and counsel for emerging small to medium size businesses. He also represents clients buying and selling businesses and also provides legal advice regarding zoning, parking and licensing issues necessary to allow clients to operate their establishments. He has developed an arbitration and class action waiver for several clients upon which he has prevailed in litigation in several matters.
Mr. Garrell has represented the legal and business interests of clients in both state and federal court, as well as in negotiations and arbitration proceedings. He has represented clients of all sizes from individual dbas to publicly traded corporations. Mr. Garrell has handled numerous real estate, commercial, tort, employment and entertainment litigation matters from inception through conclusion and has successfully tried and arbitrated multiple cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. He has also defended and prosecuted class action cases involving commercial and employment issues in state and federal court.
Prior to forming GARRELL LAW, Mr. Garrell was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Liner, LLP. There he focused on real estate, entertainment, and complex employment litigation. He also represented several high profile clients, and multi-state entertainment clients.
Mr. Garrell served as one of the lead attorneys for a major chemical company in its California toxic tort and asbestos litigation in which he has litigated in excess of 50 cases from initial pleading through summary judgment and trial. Further, Mr. Garrell represented shopping malls, office buildings and restaurants in claims arising from alleged violations of the American with Disabilities Act and Unruh Civil Rights Act.
Prior to Liner, Mr. Garrell was a litigator with Christensen, Miller. At Christensen, Mr. Garrell served as outside litigation counsel to an international restaurant chain, developing a dispute resolution program to settle all unsecured creditor claims that resulted from the client’s bankruptcy. Mr. Garrell provided counsel on many complex cases, and served as an integral member of trial and arbitration teams.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Mr. Garrell has made his home in California where he has practiced law for more than twenty-four years. He earned his J.D. from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, where he served on the Connecticut Probate Law Journal. Mr. Garrell completed his undergraduate studies at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Mr. Garrell is admitted to practice in California and before the United States District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
