Rachael A. Acrey joined GARRELL LAW, P.C. in September 2012. Ms. Acrey has been in practice in Southern California for over fourteen years. For the duration of her practice, Ms. Acrey has served as Corporate Counsel both as in house General Counsel to large corporations and as outside Corporate Counsel serving clients within the law firm environment. Ms. Acrey’s civil practice is primarily transactional. It is diverse and focuses on real estate, employment, commercial financing, acquisitions, dissolutions, private offerings, business licensing, alcohol regulatory, commercial contracts, wireless technology, corporate governance, regulatory violation defense, and compliance counseling matters.   Prior to joining GARRELL LAW, Ms. Acrey was General Counsel to one of the largest legacy real estate companies in the nation, the Fortune 500 publicly traded company K. Hovnanian/Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. (California division), founded in the 1950’s. Ms. Acrey represented KHov in individual transactions valued over $40 million that included land acquisitions for residential development in Southern California. In her representation of KHov, she handled land entitlement issues, evaluated title and mitigation efforts, obtained settlements in resolution of construction defect disputes, and negotiated settlements between contractors, subcontractors, and homeowners.   Prior to her current position, Ms. Acrey represented The Lotter Group of Companies in Newport Beach, California, which representation included the award winning wireless technology company, eAgency, Inc., a provider of mobile device security solutions to consumers and businesses and child predator protection. During her tenure as the sole in house General Counsel, Ms. Acrey was responsible for international software contract negotiations for partnerships with the major telecommunications providers in Pakistan, China, United Kingdom, as well as the U.S. and Canada. She was responsible for obtaining the company’s trademarks and managing its portfolio of intellectual property, including supervision ongoing complex patent prosecution.   In representing The Lotter Group of Companies, Ms. Acrey also managed the legal affairs of its wealth planning companies, including providing guidance on the intricacies of marketing compliance in the highly regulated financial services industry, investor relations, federal and state securities compliance, litigation management, and judgment collection. Throughout her career, Ms. Acrey has additionally served as Special Counsel to several local law firms to support their civil litigation practices with her unique breadth of expertise in the transactional arena.   Born and raised in Southern California, Ms. Acrey has not strayed far from her roots. She earned her J.D. from California Western School of Law on academic scholarship, where during such time she also clerked for the civil and probate divisions of the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, researching and preparing judicial opinions. Ms. Acrey obtained her B.A. from Brigham Young University where she majored in English with an emphasis on Native American Studies. She has belonged to a number of professional organizations including, the Association of Corporate Counsel and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, as well as her continued service with local service and public affairs organizations.
